Two week check up

Well I had my first post-op check up today. My 2 week check up to be exact. All is well. He said I was doing an amazing job and gave me a clean bill of health. He advanced me to a soft and pureed diet. I can't have anything thats thicker than mashed potatoes. I am already figuring out that I must be very creative. So for lunch today (my first non liquid meal in 4 weeks) I chose to have tuna. Now keep in mind I am on a high protein diet...60-70 grams per day is the requirement. So back to the tuna. I chose it because its already packed in water, so need to add any to the blender. I chopped up a few onions and pickles, and a teaspoon of fat free mayo. Throw it all in the blender, push puree, and tada...lunch. Did it look appetizing???? Uhmmmm, not particularly. The taste was no different, its just getting used to the texture. Once I got past the fact that it was "soft", I was okay. Really, the taste was the same. It was so amazing to put something in my mouth besides a drink. And I really don't think I could stomach another protein drink. For supper tonight I chose to have a Jeanie O turkey burger. This took a little more creativity since there was no natural waters packed in it. I cooked it, chopped it up, threw in some mozzarella cheese, salsa, and then mixed it all up. I did have to add a tad bit of water to make it pureed. But once again....pretty darn good. I have a certain protocol I have to follow. One being I have to meet my protein requirements. But I have to eat protein that is really low fat, and then also stay in the carbohydrate allowance. Its work alright, but the pay off is greater. Each meal should be at least 15 grams of protein, no more than 5 grams of fat, and under 25 grams of carbs. It can get very tricky. Just when you find something low enough in fat, the carbs are off the chart..or just the opposite. So in between meals I have to sneak in some other forms of protein.... like glass of milk (8 grams), yogurt, or pudding. The nutrtionist wants most of our protein to come from animal protein....but we can substitute a few grams with protein powder in yogurt or pudding. So lots of tricks to the trade, but I am keeping a journal of everything that goes into my mouth, so if I am not meeting the requirements, I can go back and figure out what i need to do differently. Not sure if I mentioned before that I take vitamins...its required. I take a multi vitamin in the morning, then calcium in the afternoon, and then calcium again in the evening. I was also told I could take some extra B12 if I felt it was needed. They keep up with our levels with blook work every so many weeks throughout the first year. They, my doctors, are very thorough and detailed. My care could not possibly be in better hands. So that is my life for now. I am just very thankful to be off of liquids now. And in two weeks, if all is well, I can start eating good ole solid, regular food. Whheeewwww! I am ready for a more normal life.
Almost forgot to mention.... my total weight loss for the 4 weeks is 20.4 pounds!!! My doctor said now that I am putting regular food in my mouth that the pounds will start coming off faster. He said because the past 4 weeks I have had such a low calorie intake, my body is in shock and holding onto everything it can. (which he said is normal). Will be starting zumba next week, and now starting a more aggressive cardio workout. Still no lifting over 10 pounds for 4 more weeks.
